Blog: December 2010

29th December 2010

Christmas has been and gone for another year! Wow, how time passes!! We enjoyed a simple family dinner together on Christmas Eve.

On Christmas Day, Gabriela woke up first this year and before she went to look under the tree, we all went to wake up Rafael. As they came downstairs, Gabriela went straight to the tree and Rafael went straight to the table to see if Santa had eaten his cookie ;-)

It probably took less than 1/2 an hour for all of the wrapping to be ripped off gifts ;-) They were mostly excited by the Might Beanz they received (don't ask!!) ;-) There was 1 box left right at the back of the tree. When they opened it, they weren't too excited as it was empty, with a letter from Santa.

He had been very naughty! Gabriela and Rafael have wanted a Nintendo Wii for the last few years and we have told them, no, no and no!

Instead, Santa tricked us and didn't buy them a Wii (as he knew we had said no) and he bought them a new Xbox 360 with Kinect!!!!! How very sneaky he is ;-)

He was kind enough though to have already set it up in the tv room upstairs :-)) It took a while for them to get excited about it as they really didn't know what it was ;-)

It was hard to get used to the Kinect sensor at 1st, but we are slowly getting the hang of it ;-) So far they seem to prefer playing Batman as it uses the controllers ;-)

We enjoyed a lovely Christmas lunch at a friends house - way too much food, of course!!

In the evening we popped in to another friends house and sat around chatting and drinking :-)

Merry Christmas e Feliz Natal xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

The rest of the week has been spent with Dom & I doing spring cleaning!! Garage looks wonderful and so does the linen cupboard ;-)

The children have been dividing their time between their Mighty Beanz, playing XBox or playing Club Penguin on the computer :-)))

Dom has until next Tuesday off work :-)  I've been called out to go to Singapore this afternoon. I will be flying through NYE and arrive home on 1/1/11 :-)))))

So this is my last update for 2010. Thank you all, for your support and friendship xxx

23rd December 2010

Today Gabriela turned 8!!!!!!!! Wahhhhhhhhhhhhhh :-(

She is such a good girl and we love her so much! She is a bit too much like me - her report card is along the lines of "If Gabriela applied herself just a bit more ........" LOL

It is something we need to work on though. Her one "bad" point is that she is a quitter - if it's too hard, she doesn't want to try :-(( Let's see what we can do next year.

We went to a local play centre this morning for a catch up with the Mum's from Rafael's class. I didn't think Lela would want to go as she's a bit old, but she did enjoy herself - except for when the rough boys arrived ;-( We brought Rafael's friend Jeremy home with us and they played games, had fights and made up !!! Whew ;-)

It was late before Lela was finally able to open her presents after Daddy got home. Of all the things she received, her favourite by far is a hoola hoop :-))) Best $10 I ever spent ;-) Now Rafa wants one of course!

My darling Gabriela, you have grown into such a beautiful, caring, loving and friendly young girl - everyone loves you xxxoooxxxoooxxoooxxxooo

22nd December 2010

Well, we survived Gabriela's 3 friends sleeping over - just!! Hahaha ;-) They were all very well behaved. When they arrived we got straight into cooking the birthday cake. Then we went to see the new Narnia movie. We were the only ones in the whole cinema - until the movie started and then 3 other people sat in the back row ;-)

We came home and made pizzas for dinner and ate the cake. After that they wanted to watch Despicable me and then it was time for bed. Not much sleep was had - I could hear them chattering away well into the night ;-)

The rest of the week has been spent recovering - LOL ;-)

18th December 2010

First week of school holidays down already ;-) My Mum looked after them on Monday and took them to Werribee Park to walk through the gardens. Apparently they complained a lot about all of the walking ;-) They were too tired - LOL!!

Dom worked from home on Tuesday and the children managed to have a big sleep in :-)

On Wednesday afternoon the went to a friends house and stayed over night. They all had a great time :-))

I picked them up on my way home on Thursday. We had to hurry to get ready and back into the city to go and see the show Mary Poppins :-)) It didn't start until 8pm and by that time the children were already tired :-( The show was VERY good, we enjoyed it a lot. Towards the end, both G & R's heads kept leaning into our shoulders ;-)

We caught a train home and I was sure they'd fall asleep, but they didn't ;-)

Rafael woke up very grumpy yesterday :-( Over tired now I think???

We have a birthday party to go to today, which I am now not going to, so that I can have a chance to get Santa's things organised.

Tomorrow, Gabriela is having 3 of her friends sleep over for her birthday :-)) We plan on making a cake, some pizzas and some Brasilian sweets, as well as going to see the new Narnia movie :-)))

11th December 2010

Busy week here!!! :-)

Last Saturday we attended the annual Challenge Xmas party at Sandown Raceway. It's a really awesome day :-))) The sun finally came out and there wasn't too much shade. We all had a great day. Even better, we got to spend it with our 3 favourite families :-)) So great to catch up and all be in the same place at once - outside of the hospital ;-)

The children finished school on Thursday :-) Speech Night was held at the Town Hall in the city. It was a long night, especially for the Grade 2's, who had no role except to sing a few songs from their seats. All of the Prep students went on stage and received a book. We were so very proud to watch Rafael :-)))))

To avoid the traffic, we went into the city straight from school. We went to look at the Myer Christmas window displays. The children grumbled about having to walk "that far" (2 blocks!) but they did enjoy the display. We took them to a Thai restaurant that we had been to before when we stayed in the city. They enjoyed the food :-)))

This weekend Rafael has his last Speech Pathology lesson until next year. Unfortunately, he has not been practicing :-((((

They also have Dom's work Xmas party which was postponed due to rain 2 weeks ago :-)

and ..... I am going to work!! Got a shock when I saw they had placed a trip on my line - LOL! I am going up to Sydney tomorrow and then got to Singapore on Monday. I get home next Thursday :-((( Oh well, I've enjoyed my 6 weeks off ;-)

Rafael was very excited last night to have his friend Jeremy finally sleep over!!! They took forever to go to sleep - chit chat, giggle, giggle :-)))))))))))))

3rd December 2010

Last Friday's appointment with Dr Peter was fairly routine. The blood test results were slow that day, so we did not get the electrolyte summary :-( All other counts were good.

Whilst waiting, we finally go to catch up with another NB family that we've been trying to meet up with :-)))))) Their son also had the Indium radiation this year :-))))

On Saturday we headed toe Adventure Park for the Camp Quality Xmas party - and the heaven's opened up! It poured nearly all day :-( Rafael did not go on any of the water rides, he just wanted to play mini golf. He was wearing Dom's black raincoat and he looked like Darth Vader - too cute!

We had Dom's work Xmas party to go to on Sunday, but at the last minute they called to postpone it due to the weather - yeah :-) ....... and it hasn't stopped raining and storming ALL week :-((( Very weird weather for us ;-)

Counting down the days left of school now - 4 to go! Today was 2011 day, were the children move up into their next year's class and meet their teacher. Both Gabriela & Rafael didn't get put in a class with their closest friends :-(((((( They both have new teachers to the campus, but we are happy with how it all worked out. I had a meeting with Rafael's teacher and new principal after school to go over his medical plan and update it a bit.
